Oblivion (Tom Cruise film 2013)
Since last seeing Tom in MI4 and as Jack Reacher I was looking forward to seeing him team up with the director of Tron: Legacy for this film, Oblivion. Now I know people have called it "thinly scripted" but I would call it "simple script". A basic premise with some interesting twists and turns and then a terrific ending that was very pleasing. Tom Cruise was so good, the best he's ever been since MI4 and Morgan Freeman was great, of course. New comer Andrea Riseborough plays the role of Victoria, Tom's love interest and handler. They have some terrific chemistry together in their scenes, she played her character with such strength. Same goes for Melissa Leo as the mysterious Sally and Olga Kurylenko, she was brilliantly cast as the mystery woman Tom rescues. Since Quantum I never thought I would she her give another good performance as she did in Quantum but with this one she proved me wrong. Jamie Lannister also cameos in the film as Morgan Freeman's right hand man. Great start, solid character work throughout and a satisfying conclusion. Oblivion has not only a terrific cast, but a easy to follow story that alludes to other great science fiction flicks (Moon, Independence Day, War of the Worlds) and M83's score does the same at times (alluding to Blade Runner and The Thing). Great cast, stellar visuals and a heart pumping score, Oblivion is one satisfying sci-fi treat.

The Evil Dead Returns
The cast all round is fabulous, Jane Levy is fabulous in her portrayal of Mia. Shiloh Fernandez is terrific in his. Lou Taylor, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore create stunning and interesting characters to surround our leads with. As a fan of the original films this remake was true to the original and went on its own path to define itself and become a truly original horror film. Just when you think the movie is over the film hits you and does a total 360. It's a true masterpiece of a horror film, one of the top remakes I have seen in some time. For me, this film ranks up there with remakes of The Crazies and The Ring. The characters are different, more developed and go on different paths. This new Evil Dead keeps true to its roots and should defiantly be considered the best that this franchise could offer. I loved how the characters were depicted, how the story had more depth than compared to the original and I absolutely rejoiced at the end credit sequence. Stay after the credits, I mean this!!! I will give up my soul to see a sequel come to fruition.
The Evil Dead 2013 gets a 5 out of 5!

Roger Ebert Dies at age 70
Today one of the finest film critics of our time has passed away. Roger Ebert, who wrote reviews for the Chicago sun Times died at the age of 70 from thyroid and salivary gland cancer. I loved this man as a critic and as a human being. He was funny and insightful and it is a hugely upsetting to hear of his passing. He was a legend and a great review, he will be missed.
Mr. Ebert, may you rest in peace!
