Since last seeing Tom in MI4 and as Jack Reacher I was looking forward to seeing him team up with the director of Tron: Legacy for this film, Oblivion. Now I know people have called it "thinly scripted" but I would call it "simple script". A basic premise with some interesting twists and turns and then a terrific ending that was very pleasing. Tom Cruise was so good, the best he's ever been since MI4 and Morgan Freeman was great, of course. New comer Andrea Riseborough plays the role of Victoria, Tom's love interest and handler. They have some terrific chemistry together in their scenes, she played her character with such strength. Same goes for Melissa Leo as the mysterious Sally and Olga Kurylenko, she was brilliantly cast as the mystery woman Tom rescues. Since Quantum I never thought I would she her give another good performance as she did in Quantum but with this one she proved me wrong. Jamie Lannister also cameos in the film as Morgan Freeman's right hand man. Great start, solid character work throughout and a satisfying conclusion. Oblivion has not only a terrific cast, but a easy to follow story that alludes to other great science fiction flicks (Moon, Independence Day, War of the Worlds) and M83's score does the same at times (alluding to Blade Runner and The Thing). Great cast, stellar visuals and a heart pumping score, Oblivion is one satisfying sci-fi treat.
4 and a half out of 5
